What Delete PDF Pages does
Delete PDF Pages creates a new copy of a document without the pages you name. You can enter individual numbers, inclusive ranges, or a combination such as 2, 5-7, 12. Every page that is not selected is copied to the output in its original sequence. The source PDF is not edited in place.
Deleting differs from cropping or redaction. A deleted page is absent from the new page tree, while cropping only changes the visible boundary and redaction requires securely removing selected content. Use deletion when an entire page is unnecessary, not when a paragraph or image on that page must be hidden.
When to use this tool
This operation is useful for removing blank scanner sheets, duplicate pages, obsolete instructions, accidental cover pages, or sections that should not be part of a distribution copy. It can also produce a shorter reading version when the excluded pages are clearly identified.
If the majority of a long document should be removed, extracting the small set you need is usually simpler and reduces the chance of entering a long exclusion list.
- Remove an empty reverse side created by duplex scanning.
- Discard duplicate pages from a combined packet.
- Create a public handout without an entire internal appendix.
- Remove an obsolete final page before a document is reissued.
How to delete pages from a PDF
- Open the source PDF in a viewer and note the displayed page numbers to remove.
- Select the same PDF in the tool using the drop area or file picker.
- Enter pages with commas and ranges, for example 2, 4-6, 11.
- Choose Delete pages and review the reported removed and remaining counts.
- Download the new PDF and compare its beginning, transitions, and ending with the source.
Practical examples
A 14-page scanned agreement includes blank pages 2 and 14 plus a duplicate page 8. Enter 2, 8, 14. The output will contain 11 pages, and the original pages after each deletion will shift to new displayed numbers. Base your entry on the source numbering, not the anticipated output numbering.
A training packet contains pages 1-20 for participants and pages 21-27 with facilitator notes. Enter 21-27 to make the participant copy. This removes complete pages but does not prove that facilitator information is absent elsewhere, so review the remaining document.
Tips for better results
- Use the PDF viewer's page thumbnails to identify blank and duplicate pages accurately.
- Enter all page numbers relative to the unchanged source document.
- Delete in one operation instead of repeating operations on renumbered outputs.
- Check headers and tables of contents that may still reference removed pages.
- Use proper redaction software when only part of a page is confidential.
Planning and quality checks
A reliable deletion check uses both expected and actual counts. Start with the source total, subtract the number of unique pages entered, and compare that value with the remaining-page report. Then inspect the page immediately before and after each removed block. Those transition checks often reveal an off-by-one error faster than reading the full output from the beginning.
For distribution copies, search the retained pages for references to deleted material. A contents page may still list an appendix, a footer may show obsolete numbering, or a sentence may direct the reader to a page that no longer exists. Removing the page does not repair those references. When completeness has legal or operational significance, regenerate the document from its source application or record exactly what was intentionally excluded.
Name the output so it cannot be confused with the complete source. A short suffix such as “pages-removed” is useful during review, while the final records system should capture the approved document status and purpose.
Limitations and important details
The tool refuses to remove every page because a valid output must contain at least one page. It also cannot infer which pages are blank, duplicated, confidential, or outdated. Visual inspection is required, and a page that looks blank can still contain hidden text, annotations, or form elements.
Copying retained pages may affect bookmarks, forms, page labels, signatures, and links whose destinations were removed. Deletion is not secure content redaction and does not sanitize metadata, attachments, previous versions, or information elsewhere in the document.
Frequently asked questions
Can I undo a deletion?
The original file is unchanged, so use it to try again. The downloaded result itself does not include an undo history.
How do I enter several page ranges?
Separate entries with commas, for example 2, 5-7, 10. Ranges include both their first and last page.
Can I delete every page?
No. The tool requires at least one page to remain in the output PDF.
Does deleting a page securely redact its contents?
It removes that complete page from the new PDF, but it is not a document-sanitization or partial-redaction workflow. Review metadata, attachments, and all retained pages separately.
Why did page numbers in the document text not update?
The tool changes the page sequence, not printed numbers, tables of contents, or cross-references already drawn on the pages.
